Normal: Patients often describe a sensation of being aware of one's heart rate when the heart rate increases. This is not necesarily sign of a rhythm problem. However, sometimes this could be a manifesation of a problem with the rhythm of the heart such as a supraventricular tachycardia.

Yes: When excited, hr usually rises which causes increased blood flow. This in turn is probably what is causing the swooshing sound in your ear.
