Eval. for Depression: Eventhough I do not know what type of disability he has it is a good idea to evaluate him for depression. Anti depressants may change the chemical balance of the brain to his advantage. Make sure he has all the devices that can help him out of the house i.e. Oxygen, walker, wheelchair, cane, diapers, medications etc ( according to his disability). Offer him company to go out. Motivate him.

Discover the reason: I assume you mean physically vs mentally disabled. Mobility issues or false self shame may be the issue. Discuss this with him, or ask hisndoc to address it. Mobility can be addressed with various assistive device from cane, orthotics, walker, wheelchair, or 3-4 wheel power mobility. Self shame should addressed with 1:1 counseling, groups, and perhaps medicines. start w familiar areas.

Disability: Mental stimulation is important for us all, especially someone w/limited mobility. Please follow the advice of anther doc who responded and include just sitting out in the sunshine, at least for a start. Also look into topics of interest on the internet through which he may meet people w/common interests who may have group meetings locally, and good mental stim. Peace and good health.
