It could be: Obviously this is a big "it depends" type question. A sharp colicky pain around the kidneys is very often renal stones, but could be related to other things like a nerve or spinal issue, a cystic structure, or other pathology. A thorough exam and history plus urinalysis is a good start to evaluate this issue.

Don't know: Can't tell. See your pcp. You probably need labs, urine analysis and maybe an ultrasound.
