How can you tell whether you have photosensitivity or not?

Symptoms: If you have photo sensitivity you will definitely feel it when you go out in the sun. Within minutes you will feel prickly sensation, followed by red splotches in the sun-exposed areas. After this your symptoms may escalate into hives or rashes with itching and severity depends on the extent of your sensitivity. Many medications can make you become photo sensitive that you need to be aware of.

Sun causes rash: If you go out in the sunlight and develop a rash you have photosensitivity. If you are unsure, uncover a small part of your body - say the lower half of one arm, for 5-30 minutes in the sunlight while keeping the rest of your skin clothed. To be very careful try five minutes first. If no rash appears try 10 minutes the next day gradually increasing to 30 minutes. Good luck.
