Yes: Alcohol can lower seizure threshold for someone with existing seizure disorder, so yes. Withdrawing from alcohol, not alcohol itself, causes seizures. To be in withdrawal, one must first be alcohol dependent, which means one uses alcohol continually and develops a tolerance. One is not prone to seizures until stopping- seizures usually start within 7-48 hours after the last drink.

Yes: Alcohol may precipitate seizures in pre-disposed individuals, particularly those with other underlying causes of seizure disorder or epilepsy. Most dependent alcoholics do not seize unless alcohol is removed from the system. In other cases, alcohol reduces the effectiveness of many anti-seizure drugs, and will cause seizures under those circumstances.
