Back pain: Heat can 'expand' things and at times may allow more blood flow, decreasing the pressure on nerve roots. Anti-inflammatory medications, sometimes even steroids in certain situations can be helpful, and phsycial therapy with a structred exercise/stretching program. Since your legs are going numb though, you should see a dr. To get proper testing and a DX of your exact conditon and its severity.
