Hard to say: There is a condition known as coccydynia, which means pain from the tailbone. In this condition, the tailbone is usually quite tender. It also may be coming from other structures in the area as well. Usually a detailed exam and appropriate studies can. Determine the cause. Thank you for the question.

Tough problem: Using a donut pillow can take pressure off the area. Sitz bath (sitting in warm circulating water; health supply places sell them) can feel good. Since it has been chronic, discuss with your primary doctor. Sometimes pain management helps. Surgery is controversial, and only a select few seem to benefit.
