Not good idea: If the person is actively psychotic, it would definitely not be a good idea to operate dangerous equipment. If on medication and the psychosis is in stable remission, it could be safe.

Not usually: It depends how active the psychosis is and if person, from time to time, loses some touch reality. Psychosis can be caused many things. There are newer antipsychotic medications now. The goal for someone who is psychotic is get the psychosis to completely go away first. Then carefully work welder initially with a helper at first and until you feel comfortable.
