What is the difference in getting methadone from a clinic versus a private doctor?

Legal issues: For Methadone to be prescribed for the purpose of treating an opiate addiction, legally it must be obtained from the Methadone clinic. Private doctors can prescribe Methadone from their office but only for the purpose of pain management, not for treating addiction.
