Can be mononucleosus: Monocytes become elevated when the immune system needs to produce more antibodies to handle the intracellular invading agents.. Mononucleosis is caused by the epstein bar virus which can live within the nucleus and cytoplasm of the cell and suppresses the immune system, and can only be controlled by antibodies made by intracellular monocytes. The monocytes will be elevated as part of the WBC coun.

Usually nothing: If you feel well otherwise, and it's not the preposterous elevation of leukemia, and the lab hasn't misread infectious mononucleosis as monocytes, i'd ignore it. If your physician is not concerned, i would not be either.
