Salmonella: Is a bacterium which is a cause of gastrointestinal infection presenting with fever and diarrhea for 4-7 days and is transmitted as a zoonosis, that is, directly or indirectly from an animal host such as chickens or their eggs. Only salmonella typhi is a solely human bacterium.
