CT scan: Axial sections are obtained perpendicular to the long axis of the body -- like slicing a loaf of bread. Ct, or computerized tomography does this non-invasively with x-rays and a method called filtered back projection. In other words, the x-rays are measured on the way out of your body, and the different measurements are used to create pictures of your body and internal organs.

CT or CAT scan: X-rays of the body are taken from multiple projections and the information is fed into a computer. The computer takes the data and translates it into pictures that are cross-sections (or axial images) of the body part being studied. It's like the body is sliced like a loaf of bread allowing doctors to see detailed images of the inside of the body.
