A 24-year-old member asked:

which is better for neck pain relief after a car accident - naproxen or hydrocodone?

Naproxen: The best medication for pain relief after a car accident is naproxen. Hydrocodone is a narcotic. It may give temporary relief but it is not a long term answer for this type of pain. It can cause dependence and long-term studies do not show any long-term benefit to the use of hydrocodone. When weighing the risks, Naproxen is a better choice.

Both can help: These medications are in 2 different classes. Naproxen is an NSAID and hydrocodone is an opioid and probably also has tylenol. If you don't have major kidney disease or stomach ulcers, Naproxen should be the safer of the 2. If inadequate, hydrocodone can be added until no longer needed. Use all meds as directed and carefully note all sources of acetaminophen/tylenol-3000mg/day max!

Pain killers: Naproxen is a nsaids. Hydrocodone is an opioid. They are both used to treat pain. The best pain killer for the pain is the one that relieves your pain. It can be over the counter medication like Ibuprofen or tylenol, (acetaminophen) or prescription medication.

Opioids like hydrocodone have serious tachyphylaxis - they become much less effective the longer you use them. Short term use only!

No: There are several concentrations/strengths of cortisone cream. It is doubtful that aloe plants will have the same anti-inflammatory effect as the usual dosages of Hydrocortisone recommended by doctors.

I have the following symptoms head hurts fever of 99 throat n chest on fire ears hurt too:?

Infection: You have an illness...Probably viral (because most illnesses are). Strep throat can also produce those symptoms. It is always a good choice to be seen when you feel so awful...If ears hurt too it could be an ear infection and having treatment choices is very helpful. Make an appointment to be seen.

A 24-year-old female asked:

I have visible blood in my urine and went to hospital and they said I had a UTI infection but my left kidney is in bad pain, is this from a uti?

2 doctor answers4 doctors weighed in

May or may not: Gross blood in the urine with flank pain until proven otherwise can be a sign of kidney stones. Uti typically starts from the bladder and if left untreated can potentially travel to to the kidneys with serious consequences. Follow where the pain the starts. Stone starts from the back vs UTI from the bladder.
