Hemorrhoids: You might have a hemorrhoid. This is a dilation of some of the vessels in the rectum and can cause bleeding when you have a bowel movement. Do not strain at stool. Do not sit on toilet for prolonged periods. Avoid constipation (mainstay of therapy) with the goal of soft bulky stool that is easily passed without straining. Eat a high bulk diet (dietary fiber) and drink lots of fluid.
