A member asked:

Is there a medicine that can help cure nec in kids?

Antibiotics: There is no definitive cause of nec, however most suspect it has to do with an immature intestinal system, alterations in blood flow and rapid escalation of milk feedings. Antibiotics for 10-14 days are generally recommended for infants with nec. Sometimes surgery may be needed as well.

Depends: There is no medicine that can prevent nec. Antibiotics and bowel rest, decompression, and close surveillance are necessary to manage the baby.
