Varies: Many doctors are hesitant to diagnose schizophrenia before adolescence. But there are many severe childhood conditions that have pre-schizophrenoform symptoms as early as 5 years old. Many other medical conditions need to be sorted out before these diagnoses are made.

Schizophrenia onset: Schizophrenia, which is a brain disease and affects around one percent of the population, usually begins in one's late teens or early 20s.
