Synergistic effect: Cannabis is now legal in fifteen states for medicinal purposes. Each state legislature sets forth the diagnostic criteria under which patients are able to qualify for the state permit. Many states include psychological/psychiatric diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, ptsd, insomnia, etc. Cannabis can work synergistically with tradition prescription medications to Aleve (naproxen) these conditions.

Not so fast: Smoking marijuana may occasionally lead to symptoms of paranoia or other psychotic symptoms. In fact, if you carry a certain gene, you are highly likely to experience these symptoms and often times in these cases, they don't go away. Just like you wouldn't use alcohol to treat anxiety, it is not good practice to use marijuana to treat depression or anxiety.

No: You are just trading one problem for another. Smoking cannabis brings with it all the problems of smoking tobacco. The "better" feeling you get is just one of intoxication. You are masking your underlying problems not treating them. Many studies now indicate that chronic cannabis use puts you at greater risk for schizophrenia as well. Work with you doctor to find a good mediction for you.
