Possibly: Extreme prematurity is rare and have many different causes. Certain uterine abnormalities can lead to recurrent extreme prematurity. There is however new information on genetic basis for having recurrent premature births. Parents may carry certian genes which predispose to recurrent preterm births. Find a high risk OB doctor in your area to discuss more technical details.

Possibly: I would agree with Dr. Gupta. There could be several reasons including uterine anomalies, an incompetent cervix, there could be issues that are underlying in genetics of the parents but many of these infants don’t make it past the first trimester. Unfortunately you are at higher risk of having premature infants after having a premature infant than the general population.
