What does it mean for liver cancer to be stage 3?

Liver cancer stage: Assuming that this liver cancer is hepatocellular carcinoma, ajcc (american joint committee on cancer) stage III refers to one of the following scenarios: multiple large tumors or tumor involving the portal/hepatic vein(s)/major branch thereof or direct invasion of adjacent organs (other than gallbladder) or tumor perforation of the liver capsule.

Different types: Multiple tumors more than 5 cm; tumor involving major branch of portal vein or hepatic vein; tumor directly invading adjacent organs (except for gallbladder); or tumor perforate the peritoneum; any of the above without lymph node involvement.
