Tough question: I think this is just one of those questions that can only be answered by saying that's just the way it is. You know, why do leopards have spots and zebras have stripes. God made them that way. Now if the chordae tendinae become abnormally long, the valve can begin to leak.

Chordae tendinae: It is usually congenital & can lead to mitral valve prolapse.
