Being overweight is a risk, as is high salt intake. Rarely, there are reversible causes such as a narrowed artery to the kidney.

Hypertension: Hypertension untreated can cause heart and brain damage. Causes are numberous. Most common cause is related to lifestyle but other causes can be related to kidneys and certain hormone elevation.
