Blood flow: Color on an echocardiogram typically refers to "color doppler". The speed of blood flow through the heart can be measured with ultrasound. This is graphically displayed on the screen during ultrasound using colors. The type of color reflects the direction of blood flow and the amount of color reflects the extent of blood flow.

Blood direction: Colors on echocardiography indicate blood direction. Red indicates flow towards the transducer, and blue indicates flow away from the transducer. Yellow (and green) idicate acceleration or turbulent flow.
