X-ray: They place the catheter into the artery through the skin. They they step on a pedal which turns on an x-ray machine. That is called fluoroscopy. They can see the catheter so they advance it until it reaches the part of the aorta just above the heart. They then turn it so that it is in the direction of the artery that they want to inject. So in summary, they watch the catheter as they advance it.
