This : This could be oral allergy syndrome. You may have difficulty tolerating sulfur. The best way to find out for sure is to be evaluated by an allergist.

The : The onions contain what is called thiosulfinates which are compounds that are related to reducing inflammation and hence to reduction in allergic reaction. As an allergist in practice for more than 30 years, I have not come across anyone with allergies to onions. It is possible that you have developed allergy to the compound.
