In between beats: In between beats ( diastole ) the aortic valve closes.

During diastole : The aortic valve open to let the blood out of the left ventricle and into the aorta (the main vessel of the body) during systole (when the ventricle contracts) and closes in diastole to prevent regurgitation of the blood from the aorta back into the left ventricle. During this time the blood is moving from the atria and filling the ventricles.
