We : We commonly use a combination of absorbable and non-absorbable sutures in our procedures. There are specific advantages to using each for strategic support, length of tensile strength, and their impact on your scar. You certainly are entitled to request dissolvable sutures, but be sure to ask your surgeon about the pros and cons of this choice.

Hello, Of : Hello, of course you can. However, be sure that your doctor helps you weigh the advantages (no stitch removal) against the drawbacks (greater inflammation from all that absorbable suture material left in, or premature fatigue of the softer absorbing stitches leading to separation of the incision) dan downey md facs.

While : While dissolvable sutures may be used to close the skin after a neck lift, it is important to remember that they are dissolved via the process of inflammation, which can result in increased scarring and pigmentation. Polypropylene sutures slide very easily during removal and cause minimal reaction. If you really insist on dissolvable sutures, fine catgut, or fast-absorbing chromic sutures would be best.

You : You can request these sutures but you may compromise the quality of the scar. Dissolvable stitches don't simply disappear, they require an inflammatory reaction secondary to enzyme digestion or hydrolysis. In either event scarring may result ("train track" suture marks) if the sutures take too long to get absorbed or the wounds may open if the sutures are absorbed too quickly. Removable sutures generally cause less tissue reaction and the timing for removal can be adjusted accordingly but with less tendency for suture marks.
