A member asked:

Is ataxia a form of neuropathy are they related in anyway? no details

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Ataxia : Ataxia is not so much a diagnosis as a description of movements that lack coordination or fluidity. Neuropathy is a general term meaning "nerve damage" and is almost always used to indicate a more specific condition, "length dependent polyneuropathy", or "distal, symmetric polyneuropathy." because coordination of movements requires continuous integration of information from the limbs, including proprioception, neuropathy is often associated with ataxia. Conditions that include elements of both include sensory ataxia (really more of a description), and many of the long list of hereditary conditions called spinocerebellar ataxias.
