A doctor has provided 1 answer

A : A discharge with a strong odor is not normal and likely indicates an infectious process. Yeast infections usually cause a very thick white cottage cheese like discharge that causes itching and irritation. Bacterial vaginosis is typically a gray to yellow discharge that smells like fish and also causes vaginal irritation. There are over the counter tests that help you differentiate between the two. There are over the counter treatments for yeast, not for bv. If you suspect BV see your doctor. Good luck.
