The : The criteria for fibromyalgia requiere you to have three month of symptoms , so before we discuss if its going to be life time , we need to meet the criteria, so if after we review the crietria and you have fibromyalgia. The duracion of the disease is very variable and it has to do with multiple factors and attitudes towards therapy. It is difficult to guess how long it will last , but try to just follow te measures to be better and as it goes in time you will realize what will be the duration , it might last less than what you had calculated. Good luck.

Fibromyalgia: is a chronic condition, meaning it lasts a long time—possibly a lifetime. Once the disease develops, hypofunction of the stress system could account for fatigue, increased pain perception and dysautonomia. The good news is fibromyalgia is not a progressive disease.

Fibromyalgia: I have found to be easy to manage. The key seems to be restoration of REM sleep (the stage of sleep in which somatic muscles become transiently paralyzed through the modulation of the output of the Locus Ceruleus of the brain stem.) Medications like Pamelor promote REM Sleep and I use this medication primarily with consistent results. Flexeril, Ativan and Xanax (alprazolam) block REM and should be withheld.
