If : If your wife had surgery with general anaesthesia, and the findings you describe were noted after the surgery, most likely there was some minor trauma incurred during the intubation while placing the breathing tube. This usually is self-limited, and requires only symptomatic comfort measures. Any persistent problems should be evaluated by an ENT specialist. Understand that I am speculating without the benefit of examination.
