A : A 30 lb weight gain in a 5 month period is cause for concern - especially if her diet is unhealthy. A healthy weight gain for someone her size/age trying to gain weight should only be 2-4 lbs per month. You should give her doctor a call to discuss her weight gain. It is likely from her diet, but it could be from a medical problem such as a thyroid disorder, or a side effect of a medication she is taking. It is important to figure out why she has had such a rapid weight gain before the problem gets too out of control. Good luck!

Neither : Neither rapid weight gain or loss is healthy. Her doctor was not concerned as her bmi is still less than where it should be. Please keep track on her bmi (body mass index) and make sure she dose gradually reach the appropriate wt for her height.
