What are the odds of an oral cyst returning after removal? i had an oral cyst near one of my molars removed, and was wondering if it's likely to return?

It : It depends on what type of cyst it was. If it was a simple apical cyst around the root of a tooth that has had a root canal the chances of a recurrence are not high.

The : The chance of recurrence of any oral lesion depends upon the nature of the lesion and how completely it was removed. When a lesion is removed the tissue is typically sent to an oral pathologist for evaluation. A report is sent to the surgeon indicating the nature of the lesion and if it has been completely excised. As to see the report and have it explained in terms of potential recurrence. Keep a copy for your personal records in case you ever change dentists or move.

While : While nothing is 100%, the success rate with oral cysts is high. As mentioned, apical cyst removal relating to root canal treated teeth is highly successful, but if the cyst is related to other diseases such as cancer, the rate may be different. It is best to have a pathology lab evaluate the tissue under a microscope.
