Scoliosis : Scoliosis usually progresses during the growth spurt between 9 to 16 years old. Screening may detect scoliosis at an early stage. This allows nonsurgical treatment to begin early to try to prevent worsening of the scoliosis and help prevent major scoliosis surgery in the future. California law had (and may still) require girls to be screen in grade 7 and boys to be screened in grade 8. California standards for screening children in public schools (were published in 2007) recommended yearly screening between grade 5 to 10. These may have been changed since then. I would recommend seeing your primary care doctor. Good luck!

Varies: Most scoliosis screening programs do begin in the middle school age, usually by the age of 9-10 years old. Although scoliosis screening is somewhat controversial (because so many cases are detected that dont really need treatment), the benefit is that in some cases early treatment can prevent the need for future surgery. Thank you for the question.
