Relevant questions include is it unilateral or bilateral?, characteristics of the ringing- high pitch or low pitch?, continuous or intermittent?, progression over time, what makes it better or worse?, associated symptoms of ear fullness/pressure, hearing loss, or vertigo?, family history of same or early need for hearing aides?, medication history, history of head trauma?, history of loud noise exposure in any capacity?, etc. As you can see there are many possible causes from the few questions i've asked. If you want a more specific answer i would seek an ENT evaluation.
