Can you tell me about supracervical hysterectomies?

Partial hysterectomy: A supracervical hysterectomy is a partial hysterectomy where the uterus is amputated from the cervix which is left in place. There is no proven benefit to this approach over a total hysterectomy when it comes to issues of pelvic support or sexual function. The surgery is technically easier and there is no vaginal scar with the supracervical procedure.

Cancer is possible: The least invasive hysterectomy is still a vaginal hysterectomy. This removes the entire uterus including the cervix. It is probably the safest method in the correct hands because of less anesthesia time, therefore less operating time. The cervix, if left in place can still be a focus for cervical cancer. It serves no known purpose to leave it in when doing the hysterectomy.
