A member asked:

What kind of attachments are used in knee replacement? how are knee implants attached in knee replacement? are screws used, or rods, or something different?

The : The majority of implants are attached using bone cement. This is the common term for polymethylmethacrylate (pmma), which is a plastic also used in plexiglass or lucite. At the time of implantation, the surgeon mixes a small amount of liquid with a powdered form of pmma. This becomes a doughy paste which hardens within 12 minutes to form a solid bond between the metal of the implant and the underlying bone.

Tka fixation: Cement is the gold standard today. However, there are uncemented knee replacements today as well.
