Can't find string: If you can't find the string vaginally that extrudes from the cervix then the IUD may be dislocated and need checking by ultrasound. The 2nd issue is waiting past the expiration date to either change the Copper IUD or using another form of contraception. Copper IUD's can be inactive past its' expiration date. Finally a missed period may be a ectopic pregnancy.
