Hello. : Hello. A conversion disorder is a psychiatric condition. The person's mind causes them to experience symptoms of a physical illness just as if they had a physical condition. It isn't some thing that the person does on purpose. The symptoms that they develop can create a solution to a problem. For instance, a young man enlists in the army where he is very unhappy. However, he signed a contract and can't just quit. Suddenly, his leg no longer works, so he can't go to battle. He isn't faking and he believes that there is a real physical problem with his leg. Doctors often become frustrated with patient's with conversion disorders. Frankly, they are hard to treat and the majority of doctors want to treat conditions that are in their specialty. Psychiatrists are the types of specialists that treat conversion disorders. They can be difficult to diagnose and difficult to treat. Please be aware that I am not diagnosing your sister with conversion disorder, merely providing information about conversion disorder. Take care.

Ask her if : she would like to go to counseling so they can discover what is causing the conversion disorder. What is upsetting her so much that this happens and suggest ideas if you know info about her life. Ask her to go to counselor psychologist or psychiatrist to gain some insight and assess whats going on.
