We run a pediatric ot clinic. do we have to consider and dispose of dirty diapers as bio-hazardous materials? we do not have a service set up for proper bio-hazard disposal. we double bag diapers and gloves with drool on them, and throw them in the trash.

In : In any of the pediatric clinics I have worked in in pa or ca, dirty diapers were not considered bio-hazardous materials and did not have to be disposed of in any special way. That being said, different states have different requirements. Below i've attached the contact information for the texas state dept. Of health who can answer your questions.

Diapers: Although the diapers may smell like biohazard they are not. Simple disposal in the trash is fine. A trash outside your treatment area is probably best or you will smell it all day!
