I : I can understand your concern and questions about this. Patients who have obsessive-compulsive disorder often tend to be very successful, intelligent people. They are aware that there is an issue going on. Ocd was probably an important survival trait through evolution, but is extreme in some patients. There are medications that can safely treat ocd and make the patient much more comfortable. It is also important to get at the "root" of why the patient has ocd, which often is based on a traumatic childhood occurrence.

A Personality Issue?: Obsessions r unwanted thoughts that get stuck in ur head & cause u 2feel anxious. They can rob ur life of fun & joy/create great anguish. In contrast, people w/ oc personality disorder don't tend 2see their obsessiveness as problem. They tend to a) be meticulous/rigid about how they do things: b) hold others 2 same standards; c) be critical micromanagers; & d) clash w/others over how things r done.
