Hello. : Hello. If you have active disease it is very contagious. If you have sores you should not have sex. Even if a condom is used it might not adequately prevent contact with all of the lesions. Remember that herpes can be spread even when there aren't active lesions. Regarding suppression, some people with frequent outbreaks receive daily medication (i.e., acyclovir, famciclovir, or valacyclovir).
