If : If the tooth is hurting you that much, then it probably has something to do with the nerve inside the tooth. The topical meds and otc pain relievers will not fix the problem. I suggest you see a dentist as soon as you can to determine if the nerve in the tooth is still vital. The tooth may need root canal therapy.

Ibuprofen or tylenol (acetaminophen): Its important to identify the actual cause of the pain. Generally, Ibuprofen is an excellent over the counter pain killer for tooth pain. If you have a swelling of any kind you should seek professional attention right away. Only take these drugs if it's safe for you. If home remedies and over the counter drugs don't work, you need to see a dentist to determine the cause and provide options for tx.
