A member asked:

Sharp abdominal cramp on my left side - is it gas or something else? for the last couple of days, i've had an occasional sharp pain in my lower left abdomin, a lot like a gas pain or menstrual cramp. the pain is similiar to the ovulation pain i've had in

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pain : Pain in the lower left quadrant of the abdomen can be from indigestion, or other sources of bowel irritation. It can be caused by constipation. If a patient has diverticuli, which are little extra loops on the bowel that can get food or feces impacted in them, then they will usually have persistent pain, fever, and sometimes vomiting. Ovarian cysts from perimenopausal state can cause left-sided lower pain as you state. If a patient had persistent pain, vomiting, or fever then they should contact their physician.
