You : You don't have to take narcotic after chin implantation if you don't want to. Many people do fine with just tylenol (acetaminophen) though it isn't uncommon to need a stronger narctoic type of pain medication for the first day or so. Sliding genioplasty type of augmentation is usually more painful such that you may need to take pain medication longer.

I : I give my patients a narcotic like vicodin or percoset which most people take for the first 24 hours but they have enough for several days. After that, tylenol (acetaminophen) is sufficient.

Chin Augmentation Pain: Recovery from chin augmentation surgery will vary with the the type of implant and incision used, and whether other procedures were done at the same time. The chin augmentation recovery process is not considered to be painful relative to other surgeries; oral medication will control pain for the first few days, and after that no pain medicine is typically needed other than tyelenol.
