When : When injected with a small (32 gauge) needle, the Botox injections are typically not painful. Numbing creams are messy and take a long time to work. Ice works ok but with proper technique, the injections typically cause only very minor discomfort.

Botox : Botox injections are minimally painful. The injection is through an Insulin type syringe with a tiny needle. We typically ice the area to be injected and use topical anesthetic skin creams prior to injecting. Most patients feel almost nothing during the injections.

Botulinum : Botulinum toxin injection pain is relatively minimal. Topical anesthetics, nerve distractors, ice or nerve blocks can be performed to minimize pain but are not commonly required.

Minimal discomfort: Botox injections are usually not painful. Tiny injections are used to target specific muscles to relax them. In our office, we usually use ice before and after the injection to minimize discomfort. Botox treatments only take a few minutes to complete and the results last 3-4 months. It's worth it!
