How responsive is squamous cell carcinoma of the lung to standard chemotherapy regimens?

6 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

60 percent response: Response can mean just shrinkage or complete response means its gone. The question should be does it help survival and the answer is yes. Squamous and all non small cell lung cancer types are treated the same. Surgery when possible, chemo and radiation when contained to the chest and chemo when it has spread further. There is benefit if it helps patients live longer quality lives.

Partially: There are several ways of treating scc of the lung. Specifically, there are molecular markers, such as egfr or alk-1 that can be tested to see if you are able to be managed with targeted drug therapy. Radiation is employed more frequently for scc than chemotherapy. All non-small cell cancers of the lung are treated differently than small cell carcinoma, which is much more chemo-sensitive.
