Treatment : Treatment for allergic dermatitis caused by poison sumac is Benadryl (diphenhydramine) or other antihistamines such as vistaril, steroids such as prednisone, and histamine-blocking medications such as tagamet. If you have worsening rash, any shortness of breath, or feel light-headed then you would have to be seen as an emergency.

Options: There are specific products that you can buy that will wash the Urushiol off. Some options of treating poison sumac include calamine lotion, oatmeal soaks, hydrocortisone cream and antihistamines. Anything which has touched urushiol from the poison sumac needs to be cleaned (clothes, shoes, gear etc.) Oral steroids are sometimes indicated.
