No vaporub: Rather than using vaporub i would recommend using a topical antihistamine. This is usually fairly effective with the itch. You can also take oral antihistamines like zyrtec or clariton to get relief. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) may help but many people get tired. This may help you at night.

Doubt it: It might work for you but would have no basis is science. It could have a placebo effect if you believe in it. I find it stinks and that stink chemical would likely just irritate the sites. There is a product called IVY DRY and topical Benadryl that many find useful.
