This : This question comes up often and, although different medications may have different levels of risk involved when one is trying to "catch up" with missed doses, as a general rule, i suggest not to do so. The main reason is a rather undesirable increase in the drug level in the blood that is beyond the safe level. One of my previous answers already dealt with this issue and a potential for so-called serotonergic syndrome (the drug in question was citalopram). Other drugs, for example, bupropion (also known as wellbutrin) have been associated with seizures that may occur when the blood concentration goes beyond the therapeutic level. To summarize, my recommendation would be to not take the extra dose of your antidepressant medication.

It : It depends on certain variables or factors. This would include the type of antidepressant; for example if you've been on paroxetine (paxil) for quite sometime you may experience mild anxiety related withdrawals due to the medication's short blood life and so it may be prudent to take an extra one if you miss a dose though you may have to space it on a different time from the usual one. I would believe it safe in general to take the missed one soonest you can if you've been accustomed to the side effects of the medication (for example, you wouldn't want to take an extra one at night if you've had trouble with sleep side effects like insomnia). If you are on a medication like Prozac (fluoxetine), you can get away with a missed dose due to the longer blood life of this medication. If part of your concern about the question of missing a dose something like "is this going to interfere with my treatment", a missed dose in general wouldn't interfere significantly with depression treatment.
