Many : Many different things could be causing your difficulty breathing. Pneumonia is likely the most common cause of shortness of breath, but will generally cause other symptoms in addition. In a young person a collapsed lung - or pneumothorax - can occur spontaneously or after significant exertion or after playing a wind instrument, like a tuba, clarinet, or trombone. For an older person a more frequent cause of pure shortness of breath would be heart failure based on an undiagnosed heart problem. Visit your doctor to get this evaluated.
